“Please don’t tell my mother…” 23-year-old lands in ICU after selling his kidney for a reason that has put humanity to shame
Helplessness has a quiet, devastating power. It can hurt in ways one cannot imagine. It can profoundly impact a life in ways that are difficult to comprehend. Sometimes, it gradually tightens its grip, causing choices to disappear. When survival, dignity, and dreams clash, people find themselves at crossroads they never imagine, forced to make choices they never truly wanted to make. In those moments, right and wrong blur, and necessity takes control. All that matters is what is important at that point of time. For many young people, education is seen as a path to a better life, a way out of hardship. But what happens when that very path becomes the source of unbearable pressure? When financial struggles grow so overwhelming that hope starts to feel like a burden rather than a promise? It is in this space of quiet desperation that a boy in his early twenties found himself—trapped between his dreams and his reality.A boy in his early 20s was allegedly forced to sell his kidney and is now in the ICU, battling for his life. The story of Ayush came to light only after his condition deteriorated and he was referred to Lucknow, according to a report by Aaj Tak.As per reports, a woman named Parul underwent a kidney transplant in Muzaffarnagar on March 21. When her condition began to worsen, both she and her donor, Ayush, were admitted to the ICU of a medical college in Lucknow.
According to a report by Aaj Tak. Ayush, he was in dire need of money to pay his MBA fees. He comes from an economically weak background, and when someone offered him ₹6 lakh for selling his kidney, he agreed. It was decided that half of the money would be transferred to his account before the surgery and the rest after it. “But they paid me only ₹3.5 lakh,” Ayush said. However, as per a report by Times of India, investigators alleged that Rs 60 lakh was taken from the patient Parun Tomar and Ayush received only Rs 9.5 lakh. He was paid Rs 50,000 less that promised which eventually lead to this complaint. The TOI report also states that after learning that police had been informed, the hospital management allegedly shifted Ayush to Med Life Hospital and Parul Tomar to Priya Hospital. After his father’s death, his family had been going through severe financial difficulties. “I had not paid my fees for the past two months and would have been forced to quit my studies,” he said.Ayush is now terrified and regrets his decision. As per Aaj Tak, he was not ready to speak to reporters and has repeatedly said, “Please do not tell my mother.” However, reports indicate that his mother has received the news and is deeply distressed by the situation. According to the latest reports, Ayush’s condition is stable now, and the police have taken into custody the person allegedly behind the illegal kidney racket.Coming from a financially weak background, he carried the weight of expectations and responsibility on fragile shoulders. With unpaid fees threatening to end his education and no support system strong enough to catch him, he was pushed toward a decision that no one should ever have to make. Selling a part of his body—his kidney—became, in his eyes, the only way forward.Ayush's story is not just one of personal tragedy. It is in fact a stark reminder of a society that is disbalanced and where helplessness can brutally snatch away choice, dignity, and safety from those who are vulnerable. It forces us to confront an uncomfortable truth: no dream should demand such a sacrifice, and no young life should be pushed to the brink in pursuit of education
