Prince Harry and King Charles move closer to reconciliation? Secret aide meeting hints at shift
Is the rift between the members of the royal family finally being solved? According to The Mail on Sunday, a quiet but significant meeting between senior aides from both camps took place last week. This marks the first such face-to-face in years, sparking speculation that Prince Harry and King Charles may finally be edging toward reconciliation.
The informal gathering reportedly occurred at the Royal Over-Seas League, a private club in London known for fostering international understanding. While no formal agenda was set, sources say the meeting was meaningful. “There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about,” a source told Hello magazine.
Representing the King, 76, was his communications secretary, Tobyn Andreae. On Prince Harry’s behalf, Meredith Maines, his chief communications officer, who flew in from Los Angeles, attended alongside Liam Maguire, who manages the Sussexes’ UK public relations. Witnesses say that Meredith and Liam arrived around 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, with Tobyn joining shortly after. The group was seen chatting on the garden terrace before moving indoors.
This meeting comes against the backdrop of a years-long rift that began when Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020. Since then, the relations have been sour with tensions frequently spilling into the public arena.
In a candid BBC interview earlier this year, Harry said his father “won’t speak to me because of this security stuff”- referencing his ongoing legal battle over police protection while in the UK. After his appeal was dismissed, Harry called the situation a “good old-fashioned establishment stitch-up” but also expressed a desire for peace, stating, “I would love a reconciliation.”
Despite ongoing treatment for cancer, the King has maintained a full public schedule. Harry, meanwhile, remains based in California with Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. There are currently no confirmed plans for Harry to return to the UK, though he is expected to visit Birmingham in July 2027 for the Invictus Games. Royal watchers speculate this international event may serve as a potential moment for a public reconciliation, should the Royal Family choose to participate.
