Online speed dating for singles during lockdown: Boon or a bane?

Due to the recent scenario, where we’re all locked up under our roofs and are practicing social distancing, much has changed in the lives of all the singles. Of course, we’re all under complete isolation and feeling the intense pressure of the pandemic, but for singles, it’s just a different ball-game altogether. Having no one to speak to or share one's emotions, is highly depressing to think about, let alone having to live it.

Although, being single is a choice and can be a result of a toxic relationship in the past or a romantic disappointment, however, now is the time, when you can advent into a new dating experience without having to risk being there with the person.

Surely, most of you have heard of speed dating or maybe not. For those of you, who have no idea what speed dating is, it is a form of dating where a group of men and women come together and meet up for a few hours. Each person sits in front of the other and gets around five minutes to know each other. Then, the rotation continues until and unless one finds their perfect match.

Now, imagine all of it on a digital platform. During an online speed dating session, you will be in a virtual chat-room with about 20 to 30 or more people and one by one you get to talk to them. Similar to the usual speed dating, the rotation continues until you find someone of your own caliber.

While many find online speed dating totally unrealistic and do not believe that any form of online dating can help them find true love, some find it extremely interesting and hassle-free. Although, the traditional form of dating can be more upfront and personal, online speed dating gives people the chance to meet different people on a single run and helps them analyse and be more efficient in deciding what and who they are interested in.

But until one tries or experiences it for themselves, no one can really tell, can they? Different situations call for different measures and who knows, considering the mess that we are in already, online dating/speed dating may just be the new norm.
