In a BBC Radio Five Live interview, Prince William recalled getting Kate a pair of binoculars when he first started courting her. He laughed as he recounted, "I did get my wife a pair of binoculars once... She never lets me forget that."
Thinking about the gift he bought for her, he says with a laugh, "Honestly, I don't know why I got her a pair of binoculars. It seemed like a good idea at the time." The lighthearted moment has been turned into a recurring joke for the couple, and William joked that the binoculars "sealed the deal" in their courtship.

William and Kate first met as students at St. Andrews University in Scotland back in 2001. Their friendship blossomed into romance and ended with a marriage in April 2011 at Westminster Abbey, which millions of people around the world witnessed.
