Who is Machalagh Carr? All about Donald Trump's FCC Chair pick Brendan Carr's wife

On Sunday, President-elect Donald Trump declared Brendan Carr as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Brendan Carr, who is a former general counsel of the FCC agency and is in his third term as a commissioner, is currently the top Republican on the FCC.
On Sunday, Trump said, “His current term runs through 2029 and, because of his great work, I will now be designating him as permanent Chairman. Commissioner Carr is a warrior for Free Speech, and has fought against the regulatory lawfare that has stifled Americans' freedoms, and held back our economy.” Trump added, “He will end the regulatory onslaught that has been crippling America's Job Creators and Innovators and ensure that FCC delivers for rural America.”
Brendan Carr graduated from Georgetown University and earned his J D magna cum laude from the Catholic University of America's Columbus School of Law. He also worked as an editor of the Catholic University Law Review, the FCC website stated. Carr previously served as the agency's general counsel and as an aide to FCC commissioner Ajit Pai. In private practice, Carr formerly worked as a telecommunications attorney at Wiley Rein. As Carr was named as Trump's FCC Chair pick, his wife, Machalagh Carr pulled the limelight towards her.

Machalagh Carr, Brendan Carr's wife, is a strategic counselor with over 12 years of government and private sector experience. She famously served as the Chief of Staff to US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy starting in June 2023. Before her role at the Speaker's office, she served as General Counsel for the Speaker and the office of a GOP House Representative. Previously, she worked in various capacities at multiple house committees.
Machalagh Carr has nimbly navigated the intersection of congressional investigations and oversight, law, geopolitics, and policy, most recently as the top staffer in Article I as Chief of Staff to Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy.

Prior to her role as Chief of Staff, she served as General Counsel for the Speaker and Office of the Republican Leader at the U.S. House of Representatives. Previously, she served as General Counsel & Parliamentarian for the Committee on Ways and Means, where she handled all legal and procedural issues for the Committee. Before that, she was the Oversight Staff Director at the Committee where she led the investigations and oversight of all issues within the Committee’s jurisdiction. Before joining Ways and Means, she served as the Director of Oversight and Investigations for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and as Senior Oversight Counsel at the Committee on Natural Resources.
Previously, Machalagh served in the Office of Global Compliance of an international energy company where she conducted internal anti-corruption investigations, audits, and compliance reviews for the company. Before her in-house experience, she practiced in the Litigation, White Collar, and Government Investigations Group at Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal LLP (now Dentons). Directly after law school, Machalagh clerked for the Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.
Machalagh taught Trial Practice at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and lives in Virginia. She is married to Brendan Carr and they have three sons.
