IMD warns of heavy rains across south, northeast, and east India as monsoon persists

India Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rainfall across India due to an active monsoon trough. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy to very heavy rainfall across several parts of the country, driven by an active monsoon trough and lingering cyclonic circulations, as per the latest All India Weather Forecast Bulletin issued on September 10, 2025. The depression over the northeast Arabian Sea is weakening but still influencing weather patterns, causing isolated heavy downpours expected in Northeast India, East India, and Central India over the next few days.As per the IMD, widespread rainfall is to be expected over Northeast India, East India, and Central India, with isolated to scattered showers anticipated in Northwest India, West India, and South Peninsular India for the next three days. So plan your travels accordingly.

If reports are to go by, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are also expected at isolated spots in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, interior Karnataka, Jharkhand, Kerala and Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Telangana, and parts of Uttarakhand. Strong surface winds are also anticipated at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh. These conditions are expected to persist till September 14. Thunderstorms with lightning and winds are expected in these areas.

As per report, West India, including Goa, Maharashtra, parts of Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch, will experience isolated light to moderate rain until September 12, with thunderstorms possible.
Northwest India, including Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, will see isolated to scattered rain or thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh on September 11-12.The Northeast India region is set for light to moderate rain or thunderstorms at many places, with isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till September 16. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely across Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim over the next few days. Thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds are expected to be more frequent in Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
