Nagpur’s Sarthak, Shashank, Sanvik move up in State sub-junior badminton tournament

NAGPUR: Nagpur District U-15 boys singles champion Sarthak Pakhmode, Shashank Kulal and Sanvik Chaudhari moved up in the Kwality Bakers first Maharashtra Sub-Junior State Selection Badminton tournament, jointly organized by Jayesh Dhuri Badminton Academy Badminton Foundation and Brihanmumbai Kreeda aani Lalitkala Pratishthan under the auspices of MBA and MSDBA at the Kalidas Stadium Mulund in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Third seed Sarthak thrashed Sharan Pillai 21-6, 21-11, while Sanvik trounced Ritvik Kheur 21-6, 21-12. Shashank dismissed Soham Phatak 21-15, 21-12 and will play Yash Pawar in the next round.
In the U-13 boys singles, Aaryan Sadhankar will meet Suchir Ravva, Sahil Jalgaonkar will face Devesh Goel, Ojas Gedam will play Om Hojage, while Mihirr Patel will lock horns with Joachim John.
Krisha Soni and Mrunmayee Pande shocked fourth seeds Sanika Patankar and Sanjana Ambekar in straight games in the U-13 girls doubles.
In the U-15 girls singles, Kripi Sajwan will meet top seed Tara Shah of Pune, Nikkita Joseph will meet Harshada Gawade, Aditi Sadhankar will face Mihika Thatte, Ananya Durugkar will lock horns with Rhucha Sawant, while Pinak Rokde will clash with Hetal Vishwakarma.
The U-15 boys singles top seeded Darshan Pujari cruised to a 21-8, 21-7 win over Thane’s Soham Gokhale, while Laukik beat his opponent Mayank Raut, also from Pune, 21-12, 21-12 at the Priyadarshini Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in Mulund. Pratham, after losing the first game, staged a strong comeback to defeat Shvetank Karnik of Thane 13-21, 21-11, 21-16, while Aadya overcame Kolhapur's Ritesh Sandugade 16-21, 21-12, 21-9 in a three-game battle.
In the other matches of this group, Thane’s Mann Gajra, Greater Mumbai’s Darius Pardiwala and Mumbai suburban’s Kathan Shah and Atharva Joshi won their respective matches to advance to the fourth round.
In the second round of the girls’ U-15 group played at the Shahajiraje Bhosale Sports Complex in Andheri on Tuesday, Mumbai Suburban’s Shanaysa Jain, Thane’s Nishtha Rane, Nagpur’s Kripi Sajwan and Greater Mumbai’s Taarini Suri won their intense three-game matches to progress to the third round. In the other matches of this group, Shravani Walekar (Nasik), Rhucha Sawant (Pune), Ananya Durugkar (Nagpur) and Shruti Bhoir (Thane) secured wins in their respective matches to advance.
