NAGPUR: Ritika Thaker and Simran Singhi stormed into the U-15 girls doubles final in the All India Sub-Junior Ranking Badminton tournament at Udipi, Karnataka, on Saturday.
City’s Ritika and Simran of Mumbai Suburban stunned second seeds Pooja Devlekar and Aarya More 21-19, 21-19 in 31 minutes to enter the summit clash.
In an all-Maharashtra semifinal, the seventh seeds pair of Ritika and Simran displayed outstanding performance to quell the spirited challenge of Pooja (Mumbai Suburban) and Aarya (Nashik).

Earlier in the morning, Ritika-Simran demolished Aakarshi Kashyap-Yoshita Mathur also in straight games to secure last four berth.
Ritika-Simran will now face top seeds K Ashwini Bhat and UK Mithula in the final on Sunday evening. Thirteen-year-old Ritika is a student of Centre Point School (Katol Road) and trains under Ajay Dayal and Robin Simon.

Rohan Gurbani’s stupendous run ended in the semifinals. The fourth seed did well to sideline eighth seed B Rithin in the quarterfinal. However in the semis later in the day, Rohan lost to top seed Maisnam Meiraba 12-21, 14-21. Rohan, also a student of CPS, is coached by Chetak Khedikar.

U-13 boys singles (quarters): 4-Rohan Gurbani bt 8-B Rithin 18-21, 21-13, 21-16.
(Semis): 4-Rohan Gurbani lost to 1-Maisnam Meiraba 12-21, 14-21.
U-15 girls doubles (quarters): 7-Ritika Thaker-Simran Singhi bt Aakarshi Kashyap-Yoshita Mathur 21-11, 21-13.
(Semis): 7-Ritika Thaker-Simran Singhi bt 2-Pooja Devlekar-Aarya More 21-19, 21-19.
