BAN vs AUS Live Score, 1st ODI: Bangladesh set a 285-run target; Australia wobble in chase

BAN vs AUS Live Score, 1st ODI: Australia chose to chase after captain Josh Inglis won the toss against Bangladesh, believing the pitch offered enough moisture to aid the fast bowlers in the early stages. Inglis admitted the conditions were largely unknown and said the key for his side would be adapting quickly. The match also marked a memorable occasion for Liam Scott, who made his international debut, while Xavier Bartlett returned to strengthen the pace attack.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained upbeat despite being asked to bat first. The all-rounder highlighted the team's strong performances in recent series and backed his players to continue that momentum. Mehidy said the wicket appeared good but warned that the opening 10 overs would play a major role in determining the course of the contest.

Bangladesh fielded a well-rounded side with three seamers, three spinners and two all-rounders, while Australia relied on a batting-heavy lineup featuring Matthew Short, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey and Cameron Green. With both captains identifying the new-ball phase as crucial, an intriguing battle was set up from the outset.

Taskin comes over the wicket and lands this on a good length, on off, gets it jag back in sharply. Matthew Short gets stuck in his crease and tries to play at it with a straight, but does so down the wrong line. The ball sneaks through the gap between bat and pad and crashes on the top of the off stump. A golden duck for Short, and Australia are 0/1, chasing 285 runs.

Welcome back for the run chase. After a slight delay due to rain, conditions have gotten a lot brighter now, which is a promising sign. The Bangladeshi players spread out to the park. Matthew Short and Cooper Connolly are the two Aussie openers. It will be Taskin Ahmed to open the attack for Bangladesh. Short to take the strike. Here we go again...

... THE RUN CHASE ...

15:18 (IST) Jun 09

Good news - The rain has stopped. And there is a bit of sunshine coming through the clouds as well. The covers have been peeled off completely now. And the restart is not far away as well. Let's hope the rain stays away for the rest of the evening. Fingers crossed.

15:13 (IST) Jun 09

9.43 am GMT update - The second inning should have gotten underway by now, but the floodlights are on in Dhaka and just a few minutes back, the umpires were out to inspect the conditions. It seems to have stopped raining, and the main cover is still placed on the pitch. The forecast had warned of rain and thunderstorms during match hours, and it looks like those warnings are coming true. Fingers crossed the conditions clear up enough for a full chase. Stick around for next update.

15:13 (IST) Jun 09

Game stopped due to : Wet Ground Condition

15:02 (IST) Jun 09

9.32 am GMT update - Covers are on -  It has got dark in Dhaka and there was a bit of rain around as well. However, it was a passing shower and it seems to have stopped raining now. The players can be seen warming up as well. The covers remain firmly placed on the pitch and the square is still protected. But just as things looked like they might get underway, the on-air commentators inform that the drizzle has returned. We wait. Stay tuned for further updates.

14:50 (IST) Jun 09

A challenging total to chase - FYI, since 2023, no team has been able to score 300 or above in Dhaka in ODIs. But looking at the score that Bangladesh have managed to post on the board, and given Australia's creeping struggles in the subcontinent, this is going to be some challenge for the kangaroos to scale it down. The Bangladeshi bowlers will look to build on what worked in the first innings, pace variations and attacking the stumps chief among them, as they look to keep the pressure on from the first over. Australia on the other hand, will need a steady start and the experienced blokes like Labuschagne and Carey will have to step up to secure the chase. Stay tuned as the run chase is up next shortly.

14:48 (IST) Jun 09

Mosaddek proves his credentials on ODI return - With two new batters in the middle and the lower order not far away, the situation demanded responsibility. Mosaddek and Hridoy answered that call, putting together a crucial 75-run partnership that steadied the innings when it mattered. Mosaddek took on the aggressor's role and brought up a fine fifty upon his return to the ODI setup, while Hridoy held the other end together with a rather slowish inning. But Hridoy's dismissal triggered another slide, and Mosaddek found himself stranded repeatedly as partners fell around him in the closing overs. Mosaddek batted till the very end, though, and a handy cameo from Taskin Ahmed gave the innings a late boost that helped Bangladesh finish with a strong total on the board.

14:45 (IST) Jun 09

Control with the ball in the middle phase - Australia read the conditions nicely. They came hard with the pace early, extracting what was on offer, and then seamlessly shifted to spin once the surface began to assist the slower bowlers. Zampa was held back until the 23rd over, as Shanto kept the boundaries coming at regular intervals and also brought up his fifty. However, the tourists controlled that 21-30 over phase, where Australia conceded just 47 runs and picked up a couple of wickets. Zampa had a bit of an off day, but Renshaw in particular was disciplined and tidy, giving Bangladesh very little to free their arms against. The hosts, as has been their vulnerability, lost their way through that phase. Shanto fell for a fine 67, and the innings wobbled. From 106/1, Bangladesh slipped to 140/4.

14:44 (IST) Jun 09

Positive intent by the top order - The Aussie seamers found early movement under overcast skies, and Ellis made it count, splitting the opening pair inside two overs. After that, Bangladesh took over. Shanto and Tanzid put together a fluent stand, batting with freedom and keeping the scoreboard moving at better than a run a ball throughout. Shanto, reprieved on 9, made the Aussies pay for the let-off, playing with intent and purpose. The bowlers searched for a length, searched for a line, and found neither for long stretches as the partnership flourished. It took Ellis himself to end it, coming back to break a 96-run stand.

14:39 (IST) Jun 09

A strong finish for the hosts - Bangladesh would definitely be the happier of the two sides heading back in the sheds as they managed to score 70 runs in the last 10 overs. Australia, of all their fielding lapses and not being able to put on a lid in the final overs, would feel a psychological relief to have not led the hosts get past that 300 figure. For Australia, there might be some psychological relief in keeping the hosts below 300, but not much else to smile about. Ellis aside, the bowling lacked the control and penetration needed to put a lid on things late. And the fielding was nothing short of lackadaisical from the Aussies, well below their standards. Innings breakout - Powerplay 1 - Overs 1-10 - 62/1. Powerplay 2 - Overs 11-40 - 152/3. Powerplay 3 - Overs 41-50 - 70/4.

14:35 (IST) Jun 09

Is that out? The catch has been taken, but the umpires want to check whether the ball is above the waist. The side-on replay confirms that it is dipping well below the waist and is deemed a fair delivery.

The ball goes high in the air towards mid off, where Nathan Ellis backtracks nicely, keeps his eyes on the ball and takes a good catch. There is a check for a No Ball, but the replay shows that the ball is well below the waist of the batter, and that will be that for the first innings.

BAN vs AUS Live Score, 1st ODI: Australia captain Josh Inglis elected to bowl first after winning the toss against Bangladesh, citing uncertainty over the surface and the possibility of early movement for the seamers. Inglis said moisture in the wicket could make the opening overs crucial and stressed the need for his side to adapt quickly to the conditions. Australia handed a debut to all-rounder Liam Scott, while fast bowler Xavier Bartlett returned to the side alongside Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa.

Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz, however, expressed confidence in his team's recent form, pointing to strong performances over the last few series. He felt the pitch looked good for batting but acknowledged that the first 10 overs would be decisive. Bangladesh opted for a balanced combination featuring three specialist pacers and three spinners, with Mehidy leading a side that includes Litton Das, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy.

Australia's batting lineup features Matthew Short, Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey and Cameron Green as they look to make the most of favourable bowling conditions after opting to field first.
