Pakistan in T20 World Cup Super 8, become eighth team to advance
NEW DELHI: Pakistan sealed their place in the Super Eight of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday, becoming the final team to qualify for the next stage. The Salman Agha-led side outclassed Namibia by 102 runs to confirm their progression.
With 20 teams featuring in this edition of the tournament, the top two sides from each of the four groups advance to the Super 8 phase, reducing the field to eight contenders.
Two-time champions West Indies were the first to book their berth, cruising to a nine-wicket victory over Nepal to secure a top-two finish in Group C.
Defending champions India followed, confirming qualification from Group A after registering a commanding 61-run win over arch-rivals Pakistan.
From Group D, last year’s finalists South Africa advanced comfortably and were joined by New Zealand in the Super 8 lineup.
England, also two-time winners, became the second team from Group C to progress after a 24-run victory over Italy in their final league fixture.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka were the first side through from Group B, sealing their spot with a win over former champions Australia.
Zimbabwe claimed the second qualifying position from Group B after their match against Ireland was washed out — a result that simultaneously ended Australia’s campaign.
The Super 8 stage will now feature two groups of four teams each.
Group 1 consists of India, West Indies, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Group 2 includes Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and New Zealand.
