NEW DELHI: Due to a side strain, West Indies opening batsman Brandon King will miss the rest of the Twenty20 World Cup. Kyle Mayers will take his position in the squad, as confirmed by the International Cricket Council, the tournament's organisers.

According to Reuters, King suffered the injury during his 23-run innings in the West Indies' eight-wicket loss to England in their Super Eight opening match on Wednesday in St Lucia. The 29-year-old was unable to field after that.

In his five innings, he only scored 86 runs, with his best performance coming against Papua New Guinea with 34.

Mayers, a left-handed batter with 37 T20 international matches under his belt, is anticipated to join the team on Saturday.
