ODI World Cup: Sri Lanka's Kusal Mendis suffers cramps, taken to hospital

NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper-batsman, Kusal Mendis, has been taken to a hospital on Tuesday due to cramps he experienced following his stunning innings of 122 in the ODI World Cup match against Pakistan in Hyderabad.
Mendis's remarkable performance took a toll on his physical condition, leading to the need for medical attention.
"Kusal Mendis was taken to the hospital after the player suffered cramps upon returning from the field after his brilliant knock in the ongoing game vs Pakistan," the Sri Lanka Cricket board said in a statement.

The 28-year-old displayed incredible batting prowess by smashing six sixes and 14 boundaries during his aggressive 77-ball innings. Notably, this performance resulted in the fastest century ever scored by a Sri Lankan player in World Cup history.
Mendis, in partnership with Sadeera Samarawickrama, who scored his maiden ODI century with 108 runs from 89 balls, helped Sri Lanka amass a formidable total of 344 for nine in their allotted 50 overs.
However, the intensity of Mendis's innings appeared to have had a physical impact on him, leading to his replacement by Dushan Hemantha on the field. In the absence of Mendis, Samarawickrama took up the wicket-keeping responsibilities for the team.
"Dushan Hemantha has replaced him on the field while Sadeera Samarawickrama will be donning the wicket-keeping gloves," the statement said.
Sri Lanka had lost their opening match by 102 runs against South Africa.
