NEW DELHI: Man-of-the-match Alex Carey and Usman Khawaja added 107 runs for the sixth-wicket after early blows as Australia cruised to 86-run victory against New Zealand at Lord's in London on Saturday.
Khawaja (88), who received fine support from Carey (71), steadied the ship before he became the first victim of a last-over hat-trick from left-arm paceman Trent Boult.

Fellow left-hander Carey added impetus, hitting 11 fours before he holed out off Kane Williamson's occasional off-spin.

Boult dismissed Khawaja, Mitchell Starc and Jason Behrendorff in successive deliveries but Australia, who had been reeling at 92-5 in the 22nd over, managed to post a competitive 243-9 after electing to bat.
It was the first hat-trick by a New Zealander at a World Cup and the second of the tournament after India's Mohammed Shami achieved the feat against Afghanistan.
It proved more than enough, as New Zealand slumped to 157 all out with 38 balls to spare. Kiwi captain Williamson, who scored 40, could not repeat his heroics from earlier in the tournament as the Black Caps' chase failed to take off.

Behrendorff (2-31) removed both the New Zealand openers before Mitchell Starc - the tournament's leading bowler - cleaned up with 5-26.
"It was not the start we wanted but Uzzie (Khawaja) was out there occupying the crease," said Carey. "I went out and assessed conditions and tried to bat time and go as deep as possible.
"Credit to Usman as well, he batted a long time in that heat and Starc closing it out with the ball."
Australia, who had already secured a place in the semi-finals, remain on top with 14 points from eight matches, three points ahead of India who have played six. New Zealand remain third with 11 points from eight matches.
