... DAY 3, SESSION 2 ...
England started this session on the back foot because of the onslaught from Tim Southee. Leach dropped him on 71 but luckily for him he was dismissed on the very next ball. Stuart Broad looked sharp and he took the last three wickets of the Kiwis and then Ben Stokes decided to enforce the follow-on. However, even though their bowlers bowled in tight lines and created a few opportunities here and there, they just could not break the opening stand of New Zealand. Now, they will be looking to shake up a few things and make early inroads in the post-Luch session while the Kiwis will hope that these two batters play for a long time and cut down the deficit even further. Join us at 6.10 am IST (12.40 am GMT) to see how things pan out.
An exciting morning session comes to an end! New Zealand still trail by 186 runs. At the start of the Day 3, Tim Southee took matters into his own hands and gave England a taste of their own medicine. He targeted their bowlers and played a few lusty blows and registered a well-deserved fifty. When he and Tom Blundell were batting, there were hopes of avoiding the follow-on, but as soon as Southee holed out at 73, no other batter could continue the momentum and they were bowled out for 209. After being asked to bat for the second time, the Kiwis looked very different and their openers, Tom Latham and Devon Conway saw them out till Lunch scoring 40 runs which should give them a lot of confidence to bat deep in this innings.
