New Zealand vs South Africa Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: Tazmin Brits’ brilliant century guides SA to commanding win over NZ

New Zealand vs South Africa Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: South Africa Women staged an emphatic comeback in the Women’s ODI World Cup, securing a six-wicket win over New Zealand at Indore on Monday. The Proteas successfully chased 231 in 40.5 overs, showcasing a complete turnaround from their humiliating defeat against England, where they were bowled out for just 69.

The victory was built on the twin brilliance of Tazmin Brits and Nonkululeko Mlaba. Mlaba produced a game-changing spell of 4/40, dismantling the New Zealand middle order and restricting the White Ferns to 231. She removed captain Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday and also contributed to a run-out, triggering a collapse that denied New Zealand the chance to reach a formidable total. The early dismissal of veteran Suzie Bates for a golden duck in her 350th international match added to the visitors’ woes.

Chasing 231, South Africa got off to a strong start, but the wicket of Laura Wolvaardt, trapped LBW by Jess Kerr, could have disrupted the chase. However, Brits and Sune Luus steadied the innings, constructing a record 159-run third-wicket partnership, South Africa’s highest in Women’s World Cup history. Brits’ 101 off 89 balls featured 15 fours and a six, while Luus contributed an unbeaten 81 from 114 balls, including nine fours and a six. Brits reached her fifty in just 44 balls, the fastest of her ODI career, and celebrated her century with a bow-and-arrow gesture toward teammates.

South Africa’s dominant win not only highlighted their batting and bowling depth but also boosted them from the bottom of the table to fifth place, improving their Net Run Rate from -3.773 to -1.424. New Zealand, meanwhile, remain at the bottom after two losses, with their next match against Bangladesh in Guwahati on October 10.

With this victory, South Africa Women have signaled they are serious contenders, blending explosive batting with disciplined bowling. Their next challenge comes against tournament hosts India in Visakhapatnam on October 9, setting up an intriguing clash between two in-form sides.

DRINKS BREAK! 15 overs, 51/2. Who's ahead? Anyone can say - it is the South African women. New Zealand Women, after electing to bat first, got a worse start than they could have hoped for. Losing Suzie Bates on the first delivery of a crucial match halted their hopes to get a desired start, which they wanted. But Amelia Kerr joined hands with Georgia Plimmer to try to bail them out. She found some boundaries, and things started to look good for the White Ferns, but Amelia lost her patience and holed out. Now, with their skipper, Sophie Devine, on the crease, who scored a breathtaking hundred in their previous outing against Australia Women, the Kiwis would hope that they can get a good total. But Georgia Plimmer is struggling on the other end, and she needs to get going. Meanwhile, the South African Women have been pretty accurate in their lines and lengths, extracting the best of the deck, which is offering very less. They kept the pressure tight and have reaped the rewards, too. But they would be aiming to keep doing this. Now, who would take the lead and handle the pressure well? Find out with us!

Chloe Tryon from deep cover charges in, but the ball dips in front of her and lands on the bounce. Had Tryon gone for the catch with the dive forward, that could have stuck in. Nadine De Klerk to Amelia Kerr, OUT! IN THE AIR AND GONE! CAUGHT! Something had to give for the White Ferns, and De Klerk strikes a big fish! Hurls it full in length, just outside the off pole. Amelia Kerr plants the front foot forward and looks to loft it across the line and over the infield, but does not get her bat underneath the ball properly. It, in fact, gets twisted at the point of contact and spoons to the left of mid off. Sune Luus initially misjudges but runs and then dives to complete the catch. She maintains possession of the ball even after taking the tumble on the ground. Amelia Kerr departs for 23 (42) and New Zealand Women are 44/2 after 13 overs.

New Zealand vs South Africa Highlights, Women's World Cup 2025: South Africa Women produced a stunning turnaround with a six-wicket victory over reigning T20I champions New Zealand in the Women’s ODI World Cup at Indore on Monday. Chasing 231, the Proteas achieved the target in just 40.5 overs, powered by Tazmin Brits’ brilliant century and Nonkululeko Mlaba’s four-wicket haul.

Mlaba was the standout with the ball, claiming 4/40 and triggering a crucial middle-order collapse, including wickets of captain Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday, as well as contributing to a run-out. Her spell ensured New Zealand couldn’t push past 231 after a promising start at 195/4.

In response, Brits dominated the chase with 101 off 89 balls, her seventh ODI century and first in a World Cup, while Sune Luus remained unbeaten on 81, forging a record 159-run third-wicket partnership—South Africa’s highest in Women’s World Cup history. Brits’ fifty came off just 44 balls, showcasing her aggressive intent, while Luus rotated strike and played crucial shots to keep the chase on track.

This win lifted South Africa from the bottom to fifth in the standings, improving their Net Run Rate significantly. New Zealand, now last, will face Bangladesh next, while South Africa take on India in Visakhapatnam on October 9.
