Earlier that morning, Australia dismissed Sri Lanka for 231, with the home team adding just 20 runs to their overnight score of 211-8.

Sri Lanka's morning resistance was brief, lasting only 26 minutes. Kusal Mendis departed after scoring 50, while Lahiru Kumara managed nine runs.

Australian spinners Nathan Lyon and Matthew Kuhnemann dominated the bowling attack, each claiming four wickets on a turning pitch that favored spin bowling.

Kuhnemann emerged as the series' leading wicket-taker with 16 dismissals in just his fifth Test appearance. His performance was particularly noteworthy considering he had broken his right thumb two weeks before the first Test.

Sri Lanka's batting heavily depended on Kusal Mendis, who had previously scored an unbeaten 85 in the first innings.

Mendis continued his strong form in the second innings, reaching his half-century with an elegant cover drive off Lyon's bowling.

However, his innings ended shortly after as he top-edged an attempted flick off Lyon's next delivery, caught by Steve Smith.

Smith's catch marked a significant milestone, making him the fifth player in Test history to reach 200 catches. He joins an elite group including Rahul Dravid, Joe Root, Mahela Jayawardene, and Jacques Kallis.

The series victory followed Australia's dominant performance in the first Test, where they handed Sri Lanka their heaviest Test defeat - an innings and 242-run loss.
