HYDERABAD: Only 44 overs of play was possible on the third day but Hyderabad - led by opener
M Pratyush
and
Himateja K
- stayed in the hunt for the vital first innings lead against Himachal Pradesh in their
Cooch Behar Trophy
match at Amtar on Monday.
At stumps on the penultimate day, Hyderabad were 375 for five and still need 55 runs for the lead. Prateek Reddy (3) and skipper G Anikethreddy (0) were the crease.
Resuming at their overnight score of 221 for two, Hyderabad prospered as centurion M Pratyush and Himateja defied the hosts' attack. The duo added 185 for the third wicket before Himateja fell. He was unlucky to miss out on a century by just two runs. Himateja got his first 50 off 111 balls but speeded up things in the second half of his innings. His 98 came off 174 balls with 12 fours and a six.
Pratyush, who resumed at 102, fell soon thereafter. He was a picture of patience as he battled on for 117.4 overs before his luck ran out. The Hyderabad player was run out by Rohit Narang and that was the only way he could be out. His 168 came off 328 balls and was studded with 23 fours.
Vijay Aakash, who has been in the eye of the storm over his controversial selection to the playing XI, didn't last long and was trapped leg before by Rohit Narang for a seven-ball duck.
