The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mohammad Salahuddin to a key coaching position. He will serve as the senior assistant coach for the Bangladesh men’s national cricket team.
Salahuddin’s contract will run until March 15, 2025. This aligns with the contract of the team’s head coach, Phil Simmons.
The former cricketer is expected to join the team for their upcoming tour of the West Indies. The tour begins with a four-day warm-up match in Antigua.
This is not Salahuddin’s first experience with the Bangladesh cricket team. He has previously worked as both an assistant and fielding coach. He served under head coaches Dav Whatmore and Jamie Siddons. Salahuddin’s coaching career began at the BCB’s national cricket academy. He was a specialist coach from 2010 to 2011.
In 2014, Salahuddin took on the role of head coach for the Singapore national cricket team. He holds an ACC-Cricket Australia Level 3 accreditation.
"When I took over as BCB President, I made a commitment to provide opportunities for deserving candidates to contribute to the national team set-up and Salahuddin brings with him a wealth of experience, pedigree, and knowledge, making him the ideal candidate for this role. I firmly believe it is time to integrate more capable
Bangladeshi coaches into the system," Faruque said in a statement on Tuesday.
Salahuddin, has a history of both contributions and conflicts with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). Despite this complex relationship, his impact on the nation's cricket scene is undeniable.
Salahuddin’s influence extends across generations of Bangladesh cricketers. He has played a key role in developing the skills of several prominent players. This includes current stars like Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal, who benefitted from his guidance early in their careers.
His coaching expertise continues to shape the next generation of talent. Players such as Jaker Ali and Mahidul Islam Ankon are examples of those who have learned from Salahuddin's experience.
This impact comes despite a notable incident in 2017. Salahuddin was set to join the Bangladesh national team as a batting consultant, only to have the BCB reverse the decision shortly before his official start.
