Shubman Gill 'heartbroken' by devastating floods in Punjab: 'Standing strong with my people'
India Test captain Shubman Gill expressed his concern on Tuesday about the devastating floods in Punjab that have affected over 2.56 lakh people across 12 districts, causing widespread displacement and damage to lives, property, agriculture, and livestock.
Gill took to social media platform X to share his thoughts about the situation in his home state of Punjab.
"Heartbroken to see my Punjab devastated by floods. Punjab will always be stronger than any adversity, and we'll rise up from this. My prayers are with all affected families. Standing strong with my people," Gill wrote.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh also pledged support by offering 10 boats for rescue operations in the flood-affected areas.
"I have been to affected areas myself. It's a difficult time for all of our people in Punjab. We are helping each other. I thank all the Jathebadhis and different organisations that are out there helping to rescue people. I have requested PM Modi to help us in this difficult time. We are the food bowls of India. Requesting more people to come forward to help. Punjab stand with everyone's problem now. Show your support to Punjab and the people of Punjab," Harbhajan told ANI.
The state government has set up 129 relief camps housing 7,144 people, with Ferozepur having the highest number of 3,987 inmates, followed by Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, and Gurdaspur.
The floods have impacted 1,044 villages, with Gurdaspur reporting 321 affected villages, the highest among all districts. Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Amritsar, and Pathankot follow with 115, 94, 88, and 82 affected villages respectively.

Over 35 helicopters are currently involved in rescue operations, supported by 114 boats and one state helicopter. The Border Security Force has also been deployed in affected border regions to assist with rescue efforts.
