South Africa batsman JP Duminy clobbers 37 runs in an over

NEW DELHI: South Africa batsman JP Duminy created history after smashing 37 runs in an over for Cape Cobras during a Momentum one-day cup match against Knights on Wednesday.
Chasing 240, Cape Cobras were cruising along having reached 208/2 after 35 overs. Duminy was batting on 34 off 30 deliveries when legspinner Eddie Lee came in to bowl the 36th over.
With the aim of sealing the game with a bonus point, Duminy began his hunt with a six off the first delivery of the over.He then struck sixes off the next three deliveries too igniting hopes of hitting six sixes in an over.
However, those hopes were blown away when Lee somehow restricted him to a double off his penultimate delivery. But the leggie was already sapped after conceding 26 off his last five balls. And promptly ended up bowling a no-ball.
Duminy was alert and dispatched him for a four making it 31 from five deliveries. He then sent the final ball sailing over the boundary to make it 37 from the over. Cobras had won the match in a blink and Duminy had secured his place in cricket history as the batsman to have hit the second most runs in an over. He finished unbeaten on 70 off 37 with two fours and seven sixes.
Elton Chigumbura of Zimbabwe holds the record of hitting the most runs in an over of a List A match when he blasted 39 runs off Alauddin Babu during a Dhaka Premier League match in 2013.
The 33-year-old replaced compatriot Herschelle Gibbs at the second spot who had larruped Netherlands' DLS van Bunge for six sixes in an over during the 2007 ICC World Cup in West Indies.
For India, former captain Sourav Ganguly holds the List A record with 34 runs [including 2 nb] off Sukvinder Singh.
