Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) on Wednesday announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming matches of Ranji Trophy that will commence across multiple venues in the country from December 13.
The OCA selection committee announced the squad for the first two matches, to be played against Baroda and Uttarakhand respectively.
Subhranshu Senapati will lead the side while Rashmi Ranjan Parida, the head coach of OCA academy, will accompany the squad as the batting coach.
But the primary feature of the list was the inclusion of four new faces in the squad in Odisha’s bid for a memorable season after failing to get out of the group stage in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament. Swastik Samal, Tarini Sa, Kartik Biswal and Sourav Kanojia are the newcomers in the squad.
Clubbed together with heavyweights like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in Group A, and after a satisfactory season under coach Wasim Jaffer, Odisha will have their tasks cut out if they want to make the knockouts this time.
The batters in the squad are Shantanu Mishra, Anurag Sarangi, Senapati, Govind Poddar, Abhishek Raut and Rakesh Patnaik while the bowling unit includes Debabrata Pradhan, Suryakant Pradhan, Basant Mohanty and Subham Nayak. Sujit Lenka has been selected as the second wicketkeeper with regular keeper Rajesh Dhupar also in the squad.
