NEW DELHI: There have of course been quite a few bizarre dismissals in cricket over the years.
On Tuesday, Australian batsman
Hilton Cartwright's freak dismissal against New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield is now very much a part of the list of bizarre dismissals in cricket.
Batting for Western Australia on day four, Cartwright pulled a short delivery from
Jason Sangha on the leg side.
The fielder at forward short leg takes evasive action, as soon as the bowler pitches it short.
Nick Larkin did the same. He ducked and the ball hit him flush on his helmet and ricocheted across the pitch towards short cover. Sangha completed the catch on his follow-through much to the delight of his teammates.
Cartwright was left stunned, as a truly bizarre dismissal was completed.
This of course was the latest in a long line of strange dismissals in cricket, over the years.
One such incident was witnessed in January 2006. During an ODI against Sri Lanka in Melbourne,
Andrew Symonds hit a
Jehan Mubarak delivery straight down the pitch, it hit non-striker Michael Clarke and ballooned towards mid-wicket, where
Tillakaratne Dilshan completed the catch.
