Watch: Bat blocked by Dickwella's foot? Priyansh Arya's freak run-out triggers fan debate
NEW DELHI: Priyansh Arya's fluent innings ended in extraordinary fashion after a bizarre mix-up with Ruturaj Gaikwad and an unfortunate collision with wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella's foot during the tri-series opener against Sri Lanka A on Tuesday.
An extremely unusual dismissal unfolded in the 13th over after Gaikwad pushed the ball towards deep cover and called for a second run. Priyansh initially responded positively but hesitated midway, by which time Gaikwad had already committed and comfortably made his ground at the striker's end.
As both batters ended up stranded at the same end, Priyansh desperately tried to beat his partner back to the crease. However, in a strange twist, his sliding bat got trapped under the foot of wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella, preventing him from grounding it in time.
Dickwella quickly reacted, underarming the ball to Ravindu Fernando, who broke the stumps at the non-striker's end. Following a referral, the third umpire ruled Priyansh short of his ground, bringing an abrupt end to an impressive 32-ball 32.
The incident sparked debate among fans on social media, with several suggesting the left-hander might have beaten Gaikwad to the crease had his bat not been obstructed by Dickwella's foot.

The bizarre dismissal came after India A had slipped to 16 for two following the early exits of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Prabhsimran Singh. Sooryavanshi, playing his first match after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign, made 14 before attempting an ambitious scoop over mid-off off Mohamed Shiraz, only to find Wanuja Sahan Arachchige with the catch.
Priyansh and Gaikwad steadied the innings before the mix-up left India A at 69 for three.
From there, Gaikwad and captain Tilak Varma rebuilt calmly with a 150-run stand for the fourth wicket. Gaikwad struck his 21st List A hundred, reaching the milestone in 112 deliveries, while Tilak contributed a patient 60 off 97 balls.
Gaikwad eventually fell for a composed 101, and Tilak departed shortly afterwards, but late cameos from Ayush Badoni (24 off 18) and Suryansh Shedge (26 not out off 14) lifted India A to a competitive 276 for six.
