Work at Mullanpur cricket stadium in full swing: Daljeet Singh

CHANDIGARH: It's been a while since the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) announced building the region's second cricket stadium in Mullanpur here but work now is in full swing and being closely monitored, confirmed Daljeet Singh, who heads BCCI's Grounds and Pitches Committee.
"I'm not into it fully myself, but I believe the work is in full swing. The boundary wall has come up and the (PCA) management, including the president, the secretary, the joint secretary and secretary general, is monitoring work day to day," Singh told TOI.
Located in the outskirts of Chandigarh, the PCA acquired 42 acres of freehold land for the proposed stadium in 2011.
The total cost for building the stadium is approximately Rs. 230 crore.
Singh said while he isn’t at the moment involved with the project, he will be in the thick of things once it's time to lay the playing surface and pitches.
"When the ground comes up and the pitches come up, I will be involved," he said.
Punjab currently has one international stadium, the IS Bindra PCA Stadium in Mohali, that has a capacity of approximately 27,000. But the Mullanpur stadium is expected to be bigger and accommodate more spectators.
"As I understand, the capacity of the ground will be around 35,000," Singh said.
