When 17-year-old Arjun Tendulkar sent Jonny Bairstow hobbling off

NEW DELHI: England cricketers have long suffered at the hands of a batsman whose last name is Tendulkar, ever since the Indian batting icon marked his second appearance against them, aged 16 years and 112 days, with a masterful unbeaten 119 to save a Test at Old Trafford in 1990.
Lighting has struck twice, though in very different circumstances, with another Tendulkar, also aged 17, giving the current England cricket team a bit of grief.

Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun, according to the Daily Mail, was practising with Joe Root’s team at Lord’s ahead of the first Test between England and South Africa that starts today, and with his first delivery bowled struck wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow with a well-directed yorker. Now while Bairstow’s participation in the Test has not been effected, he did require medical attention to ease his pain, reported the British daily.

The six-foot-plus Arjun is no stranger to the indoor nets at Lord’s, having made several appearances here with his legendary father over the past few years during the English summer. During the recent ICC Champions Trophy, the teenager had the Indian media in a flurry when he padded up for a nets session. Earlier, he has trained with the touring Indian team as well as with England ahead of a Test against Pakistan.
