With the anticipation growing for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6), rumors and speculations have been rife regarding the return of legendary characters from the series' history. Rockstar Games has remained mum on details, but that has not stopped fans from imagining what characters they expect to feature in the next game. From popular favorites to cherished antiheroes, these are four characters that could make a return in GTA 6.
1. Niko Bellic: Back to Liberty City's Streets?
Background: Niko Bellic, the gritty and complicated hero of GTA IV, is one of the most iconic characters in the series. His migration from Eastern Europe to Liberty City was marked by betrayal, tragedy, and a relentless pursuit of a better life. With the depth of his story in the narrative, many fans are convinced that he can return in GTA 6, perhaps moving to Vice City for a new beginning.
Possible Plot: Rumors of Niko's return were also fueled by leaks that hinted Rockstar may have something planned for him to return inside missions or even a cameo. While some feel his character arc was wrapped up in GTA IV, others feel the events of Liberty City can still linger in Niko's storyline, particularly if Vice City includes an international crime element.
But there is one possible hiccup: the voice actor from GTA IV, Michael Hollick, complained bitterly about not getting adequately compensated for his services and made a future recast of the character, at least according to some perspectives, a dicey proposition. Yet Rockstar might manage to bring Niko in without messing up the players' love of the character.
2. Michael De Santa: The Exiled Heist King?
Background: Michael De Santa has been a fan favorite, especially for his characterization as the disillusioned, high-rolling criminal who longs for peace and is drawn back into the life he attempted to leave behind. Since GTA V, Michael has not been seen in GTA Online—a conspicuous absence that has fueled rumors of his return in GTA 6.
Possible Plot: Others think Michael could be participating in a wealthier role within Vice City, possibly using his connections to the movie business or high-society affiliations. Rumor even has him running a large movie production studio in Vice City, allowing players access to missions involving the behind-the-scenes of moviemaking. With his already solidified character and a narrative connecting him to the criminal world, Michael might be an ideal fit for GTA 6 without hijacking the new protagonists.
3. Roman Bellic: Back to the Unapologetic Cousin
Background: Roman Bellic, Niko's charming cousin from GTA IV, is best known for his good-naturedness and humor.
Possible Plot: Roman, who hustled most of his life in Liberty City in order to establish a thriving taxi business, could quite possibly find himself a new home in Vice City. With Roman's flair for grand schemes, it wouldn't be surprising for him to have diversified his empire and become a success in Vice City's booming economy.
4. Trevor Philips: An Expected Return to Vice City Vice
Background: One of GTA V's most eccentric and unpredictable characters, Trevor Philips is known for his murderous rampages, psychotic behavior, and complete lack of respect for the law. Even though his GTA V saga concluded in a manner that left little room for a straightforward continuation, Trevor's volatile personality and criminal syndicate could bind him into the GTA 6 storyline with ease.
Possible Plot: Since Vice City is a city where numerous illegal activities thrive, it's possible that Trevor can make a comeback in some form, be it as a main character or cameo.
Maybe he's been establishing a new criminal empire within the city, allowing players to work for him (or against him). Rockstar Games might also bring back Trevor in a manner that is compatible with the general theme of chaos and lawlessness that Vice City has, so his return would be logical and believable.
The Possibilities Are Endless At this point, Rockstar has not officially said if any of these iconic characters will return in GTA 6, and a lot of the rumors are still based on speculation.
But with the incredible popularity and storytelling value of such characters as Niko, Michael, Roman, and Trevor, it's certainly not out of the question that they might turn up in some form or other in the game.
