BENGALURU: Bello Rasaq has been playing in India for 14 years and his biggest regret till Sunday was that he had never won the I-League. It seemed the big-hearted defender's wait would get longer as Mohun Bagan, needing a draw to seal the title, trailed Bengaluru FC 0-1 after 86 minutes.
As Mohun Bagan got a corner, the Nigerian defender decided to take it upon himself to change the script.

Sony Norde floated one nicely from the right, and Bello rushed in from behind to jump above his marker and nod home the equalizer, which was as good as the winner as it fetched Bagan the crucial point. And off went Bello to the corner flag where he broke into celebrations with his teammates.
It was Bello's first goal of the I-League this season, and certainly the most important one of his life. "I have craved for this title for so long and finally I have won it. This is an amazing feeling and just cannot be explained in words," Bello said later. "I dedicate it to my teammates, supporters and family."
Bello said that even when the team was trailing, he was confident that the goal would eventually come.
Mohun Bagan coach Sanjoy Sen, who himself won the award for best coach, heaped praise on Bello.
"You can actually compare him with Chelsea's John Terry for the consistency he has shown throughout the season. He has been a key player for the team," said Sen, who had brought Bello to United SC from Viva Kerala.
