Europa League final, Manchester United vs Villarreal Score: Villarreal beat Man United 11-10 on penalties

Villarreal stunned Manchester United after a marathon penalty shoot-out, with goalkeeper David de Gea missing the last spot-kick, in the Europa League final to lift their first ever major trophy in Gdansk. It finished 1-1 after 120 minutes as Gerard Moreno put the unfancied Spaniards ahead in the 29th minute, before Edinson Cavani levelled early in the second half. But Villarreal won a remarkable shoot-out 11-10.

Bruno Fernandes to lead Man United tonight
Bruno Fernandes takes over the captaincy in Harry Maguire's absence, with Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer starting Paul Pogba in a more orthodox midfield role after leaving Fred on the bench. I have no thoughts of revenge against an English club or anyone else. All I do is to try and bring the best that Villarreal can achieve. It's a great club. This competition has improved hugely and it's full of powerful teams of the top level who are desperate to win it and Villarreal has earned a place in that group.
