Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a major blow as four key players — James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Radu Drăgușin, and Lucas Bergvall — have been ruled out through injury ahead of their final Europa League clash with Manchester United. The high-stakes game in Bilbao will be Spurs’ best chance to win a trophy and ensure a place in the Champions League for the first time in over a decade. But the loss has created a real headache for coach Ange Postecoglou without these key players.

Key players’ absence weakens Tottenham's lineup

Spurs’ attack and defense are taking one hell of a double whammy. James Maddison, who has scored 12 times and provided 11 assists this season, is out injured with a knee injury picked up in the semi-final against FK Bodø/Glimt. Dejan Kulusevski is unavailable, too, taking care of a knee concern that has kept him from participating in recent battles. It limits the Spurs’ ability to create from the wings and to control the midfield.
At the back, Radu Drăgușin is out with an ACL injury that has ruled him out for the rest of the campaign. The Romanian defender had been finding a rhythm at the back, and his continued absence is creating a gap in defence.
In the meantime, talented young midfield player Lucas Bergvall continues to be out through ankle injury and was spotted walking unaided recently. These casualties have left Tottenham's squad stretched ahead of their biggest game of the campaign.

Postecoglou's tactical adjustments amid injury crisis

Postecoglou is expected to tinker after losing key players. There were probably more players pencilled in for the starting XI than half positions. Son Heung-min is expected back in the team to lead the line. Midfielder Pape Matar Sarr will be important in controlling the tempo of the game, especially now that he has regained his match fitness. Postecoglou has also been tipped to push full-back Pedro Porro further forward to get up and help attack, particularly with options in midfield now limited.
