Manchester City are on the verge of making an opening offer for AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Dutch international has become Pep Guardiola's primary target for the number 8 position as City try to beef up their squad for next season.
Fabrizio Romano made it known that while Reijnders is busy with the final games of this season for AC Milan, Manchester City are already working in preparation for their proposal. The Premier League champions do not want to disrespect the player's dedication to his current team, but they are going to make a formal offer for him after the completion of the Milan campaign.
Manchester City seeks to sign Reijnders as De Bruyne replacement
Manchester City’s pursuit of Reijnders is a move that is made amid preparations for a life without Kevin De Bruyne, who will leave at the end of the season. The Dutchman is considered a perfect replacement for the Belgian playmaker because of his technicalities and adaptability in the midfield.
Reijnders joined Milan in 2023 this year and has already proved his importance to the Italian side. He has represented the club in more than 100 games, and he helped them win the Supercoppa Italiana earlier this year. His showing has caught the attention of Guardiola, who rates his passing range, vision, and attacking contributions highly.
AC Milan faces a tough decision amid Manchester City's pursuit
AC Milan are now left with a hard decision on their hands in their star midfielder. City's financial clout, though, could test the resolve of Milan to keep him at the San Siro, even though Reijnders signed a new long-term deal with the San Siro outfit earlier this year.
The Italian club is placed eighth in Serie A, and this season, the club has changed managers as Sergio Conceicao replaced Paulo Fonseca in December. They have made good progress in cup competitions, but their league form has been poor. This is a situation that may affect their decision in case City offers them a big deal.
According to reports, Manchester City could be forced to smash their transfer record in order to prise Reijnders away from Milan, with the player currently being valued at around €60 million. The midfielder's market value has almost tripled ever since he came to Italy, which is a good indication of his tremendous development.
