The Formula E drivers are all pumped up for the second race of the season, the Mexico City E-Prix. Season 12 started in December last year with the Round 1 race held in Sao Paulo. Jake Dennis and Oliver Rowland finished first and second in Sao Paulo and are among the Mexico City winners who went on to win the titles in their respective seasons. The two have now shared their excitement for the upcoming Round 2 race as they return to the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit with the aim of repeating their success.
Jake Dennis, Oliver Rowland share excitement ahead of Mexico City E-Prix
Jake Dennis, who won the Round 1 race of the season in Sao Paulo, wants to continue his winning momentum. Speaking about the upcoming race, he said, “Starting the season with a win in Sao Paulo was a great way to kick things off, but the focus now is firmly on Mexico City. It’s a track I know well and I’ve got some good memories there, but every race in Formula E brings its own challenges. We’ve shown we have strong pace, so the aim is to put together a clean weekend and keep building momentum as a team.”
Dennis was victorious in Mexico City in 2023 and became the first driver to win in Formula E’s GEN3 era.
Fresh from his World Championship win in Season 11, Oliver Rowland finished second in Sao Paulo.
He won the last Mexico City E-Prix and went on to claim the title as well, continuing the three-year trend.
Sharing his excitement for the race, Rowland said, “I can’t wait to be back racing in Mexico City this weekend, as it’s always such a brilliant atmosphere around the event. My victory here in 2025 was one of the best of my career; the energy from the crowd was incredible.”
“It’s going to be interesting to see how the removal of the chicane will affect the racing, hopefully there will be more overtaking. We know we need to work hard. Taking 18 points from Sao Paulo was a positive, but there are aspects to improve on, which will be the target for Mexico. The trend in the last three Formula E seasons has been that the winner of this E-Prix goes on to claim the drivers’ title, so I’ll be aiming to repeat the success of Season 11,” he added.
Besides Dennis and Rowland, Pascal Wehrlein won the Mexico City E-Prix in Season 10 and went on to win the title that year. This adds to the excitement, as the winner of the upcoming race could go on to become the world champion this season. The Round 2 race is scheduled on January 10.
