BANGKOK: An ambitious
Gaganjeet Bhullar has his eyes set on Europe this year and the rising Indian golfer opens Asian Tour International campaign on Thursday hoping for a perfect start to a new season.
"I love setting goals and I love achieving goals. 2010 would be year where I want to take my game abroad to Europe and I'm aiming to play well in the co-sanctioned events.
It helps improve yourself as a player if you set targets," said the Kapurthala pro.
"I'm feeling confident although it's my first tournament after a long gap. Every golfer needs to have a good start at the beginning of the year and I'm looking forward to it," said Bhullar, who will be spearheading the Indian challenge in the $300,000 event.
"It's the first event of the year. Everyone is trying to put their money up on the Order of Merit and so am I. I'm going to try and play well this week. Playing well in the beginning of the year can give you the right confidence for the next 11 months," said the youngster.
Apart from Bhullar, Gaurav Ghei, Himmat Rai and C Muniyappa are also in the fray in the Suwan Golf and Country Club.
Bhullar earned his breakthrough win at the Indonesian President Invitational last year and also qualified for British Open.
Looking back, Bhullar said, "2009 was a great year. It changed a lot of things in my life. Before the start of last season, the goal was to win and I managed to do that. And a week before that I played in a Major and it has been my childhood dream to play in a British Open."
James Kamte will be defending his title in the season-opener this year but the South African golfer will likely have to compete with borrowed clubs.
Kamte's golf clubs did not arrive even though the golfer has not given up all hopes.
Thai hero Thaworn Wiratchant will spearhead the local charge while other top names include Australian Marcus Both, in-form Singaporean Lam Chih Bing and Japanese winners Daisuke Maruyama and Azuma Yano.
