Air India and Punjab National Bank register win in Beighton Cup

KOLKATA: Air India and Punjab National Bank virtually booked their semifinal berths after registering their second successive wins in the 117th All-India Beighton Cup hockey tournament on Monday.
In a group A quarterfinal league match at SAI artificial turf, Punjab National Bank beat R C F Kapurthala 5-2 riding on a hat-trick from Ajitesh Roy (18th, 46th and 49th).
Hardeep Singh (25th) and Ranjit Singh (62nd) completed the tally for the Punjab National Bank as they got six points from two matches.
The Kapurthala outfit scored through Karanpreet Singh (1st) and Sunder Singh (52nd).
In the group B quarterfinal league match, Air India rode on a solitary goal by Joga Singh (12th) to pip South Central Railway and log six points.
