It was a tense and emotional moment on a Florida road when Sha'Carri Richardson pleaded with a police officer not to take her to jail. New police bodycam footage shows the Olympic track star begging for mercy after being stopped for alleged speeding. The video, obtained by TMZ Sports, shows Richardson trying everything she could to avoid arrest. She repeatedly asked the deputy to give her a chance and let her go.
Despite her efforts, the officer did not change his decision, and Richardson was taken away in handcuffs. The stop happened after a deputy from the Orange County Sheriff's Office pulled her over for allegedly driving more than 100 miles per hour. While Richardson later posted bond and was released the same day, the video has quickly drawn attention because of her emotional response and the officer’s firm stance during the stop.
Sha'Carri Richardson arrested after alleged 104 MPH speeding stop
The bodycam video begins with the deputy catching up to Richardson’s Aston Martin before turning on his lights and sirens. After pulling her over, the officer approached her car and immediately addressed her behavior.
“I’d wipe that smile off your face,” the deputy said, before explaining why she had been stopped. He told Richardson she was being pulled over for “dangerous, excessive speeding.”
The officer then listed the reasons for the arrest in detail.
“You’re driving at 104 miles per hour in a 65 miles per hour zone, with subpar equipment, flashing people to get out of your way, following too close, using every lane to pass everybody, cutting me off, passing a car on the inside shoulder with their hazard lights on,” he said. “You’re going to jail for dangerous excessive speeding.”
Richardson tried to calm the situation and speak her way out of the arrest. “I really want to work with you, sir. I am a law-abiding citizen,” she said. “Sir, please don’t allow me to go to jail. Please. Please, sir.”
Her pleading continued as she explained her situation. “Please, sir. I’m begging you. Don’t take me to jail. I will do everything. My tire, I cannot go to jail. I promise you, I don’t want to go to jail,” Richardson said. “I’m right here. I have a team here. I have a coach, everything. I was not intentionally doing anything.”
The officer, however, made it clear his decision was final. He told Richardson there was nothing she could say to change the outcome. As a result, she was arrested and taken to jail. Later that same day, Richardson posted a $500 bond and was released.
