Carlos Alcaraz reveals true character before Wimbledon final as Adam Jones shares rare moment from practice session

Carlos Alcaraz is often talked about for his tennis, but this time, the story is about something away from the court. A British player who has worked closely with him recently shared a moment that shows a very different side of the World No. 1. It is a simple story, but it says a lot about the kind of person Alcaraz is.

Adam Jones, who has been part of Alcaraz’s practice sessions, opened up during the Control The Controllables Podcast. He spoke about how Alcaraz behaves during training and what makes him stand out from others. According to him, it is not just about skill, but also how he treats people around him.

Jones explained that working with Alcaraz feels different from working with many other players. He said, “I mean to put it quite simply, I think he is just a nice, normal guy who happens to be ridiculous at tennis. It is just so caring and like even in our practices, like don’t get me wrong, I am locked in like we have fun and we joke, but I am locked in.”

He also pointed out how Alcaraz reacts during practice. “Even if I miss it, it’s fine. He laughs or whatever. He is not bothered, some players, if I miss it, it is a problem,” Jones added. That small detail shows how relaxed and supportive Alcaraz is, even in serious sessions.

Then came the moment that stayed with him. Jones shared what happened before last year’s Wimbledon final, when Alcaraz was preparing to face Jannik Sinner. After a strong warm up session, Alcaraz thanked him and gave him a hug.

Jones said, “This story is pretty awesome. During the Wimbledon final before playing Sinner last year, I warmed him up outside the court. It was a great session. He gave me a hug and said thanks. Then I point out my parents.”

He continued, “I am like my mum and dad are over there, they loved that, and without hesitation he went straight over to them, shook their hand, gave them a hug. He took a photo with them and me before the Wimbledon final. That is unheard of, it is amazing.”

Moments like this are rare, especially right before a big final. But that is what made it special.

Now, the focus returns to tennis. Alcaraz is getting ready for the Monte Carlo Masters, where he will start his clay season. Recently, he had a tough run during the Sunshine Double, losing in the Indian Wells semifinal and exiting early in Miami.

He will now look to bounce back on clay. In his opening match, he is set to face either Stan Wawrinka or Sebastian Baez. With a title to defend, this tournament could be an important turning point for him.
