Iga Swiatek has ended her coaching partnership with Wim Fissette, and the timing has raised questions. The decision came right after her early exit at the Miami Open, where she lost in the second round to fellow Polish player Magda Linette. That match turned out to be her last with Fissette in her corner. The partnership had started in October 2024 and brought strong results. Under Fissette, Swiatek won three titles, including the 2025 Wimbledon women’s singles trophy. But in recent weeks, her form dipped, and the Miami loss made things worse. Soon after, both Swiatek and Fissette shared posts on social media confirming they were going their separate ways. Now, former World No. 1 Kim Clijsters has shared her thoughts on what may have led to this split. Speaking on the Love All podcast, she pointed to someone very close to Swiatek’s team, her psychologist Daria Abramowicz.

Kim Clijsters explains Daria Abramowicz’s role in Iga Swiatek and Wim Fissette split and why replacing him may not be easy

Kim Clijsters, who has worked with Wim Fissette in the past, said that having a strong mental coach like Daria Abramowicz always present can make things tricky for a head coach. She explained that coaching is not just about tennis drills but also about understanding the player’s mindset.
“I also think on Wim’s side it’s also not easy to work in a team I think where you have a mindset coach who is very close. Who’s always there. And because that’s also, in a sense, I feel like the coach also has a little bit, needs to also know… it’s also part of it,” Clijsters said on the Love All podcast. She also added that replacing someone like Fissette is not simple because a good coach handles both the game and the mental side.“I feel like a good coach can also understand the mental side of it, how to approach that, like I think it’s it’s not just the tennis part or the puzzle piece that you can just take out and replace by somebody else.”At the same time, former World No. 9 Andrea Petkovic shared a possible name Swiatek could consider. Speaking on The Big T Podcast, she suggested Piotr Wozniacki, who coached his daughter Caroline Wozniacki to World No. 1.Petkovic said, “Honestly I think it would be kind of a good fit. I think Piotr (Wozniacki) was underestimated as a coach. I spent 10 days training with Caroline in New York and I was so surprised how good a coach he is. He is very creative, he is so fun to be around, he has great exercises that I have never done with anybody else. And he’s kind of an old school hard dog. He takes no BS. I really enjoyed my days with him.”However, Piotr Wozniacki has already made it clear that he is not planning to return to full-time coaching on the tour.Looking ahead, Iga Swiatek will now shift her focus to the clay season in Europe. She is expected to play in Stuttgart, Madrid, Rome, and then French Open, where she has already won four titles in her career.
