Su Yiming has opened up on why snowboarding deserves a place on the big screen. The Chinese superstar feels Hollywood has not fully explored the sport’s storytelling power. Famous for winning big air gold and slopestyle silver at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Su is more than just an athlete. He is also a former child actor. Now, he wants to mix both worlds and take snowboarding beyond short action films made only for core fans.

Unlike traditional snowboarding movies, Su dreams of a full-length feature film. He imagines a movie driven by story, emotion, and real personalities from the sport. He believes snowboarding’s strong friendships and shared passion could translate well to cinema. With the Milano Cortina 2026 games set to begin, Su is again in the spotlight, not only for medals, but also for his vision to grow the sport worldwide.

Speaking to the Olympics' official website, Su Yiming said most snowboarding films focus only on tricks and mountains. He feels there is space for something more meaningful. He wants a movie where top snowboarders act together and follow a clear storyline. According to Su, snowboarding is special because athletes support each other, train together, and celebrate progress as a group. He believes that balance of competition and friendship would connect with a wider audience.

Su explained that he has always lived between acting and snowboarding. He wants to help make snowboarding a sport loved by people everywhere, not just fans who already follow it closely. In his view, film is a powerful way to grow that love.

Before turning fully to snowboarding in 2018, Su was a well-known child actor in China. He features in many movies and TV shows. For one major role, he even learned skiing to fit the character. Those experiences, he says, helped him later as an athlete.

Su says he learned not to chase wins alone. Feelings and excitement matter just as much. Looking ahead, his biggest goal is clear. He hopes to win one, or even two more Olympic gold medals in big air and slopestyle. As for who should play him in a future biopic, Su says passion matters more than fame. Any actor who truly loves life and their craft would make him happy.
