The 2025 MLB season turned lucky for the Oakland Athletics infielder Max Muncy. The announcement was made by the Athletics manager Mark Kotsky after Muncy’s impressive performance during the entire spring training. Max Muncy’s hard work paid off as he was on the verge of being removed from the lineup for the 2025 MLB season. Recently, the 22-year-old athlete spoke about his true feelings after making it to the opening day roster.

Max Muncy reveals being emotional after earning a spot on the opening-day roster

Max Muncy made headlines after he was selected for the opening day roster of the Oakland Athletics. Reportedly, he was on the verge of an exit from the team. The 22-year-old infielder revealed getting emotional after making it to the opening-day roster. As reported by the MLB Network, Muncy confessed that he just could not believe that it was really happening and instantly called his parents. Max Muncy said-“It was surreal. A little unexpected. I thought I was getting sent down. But he was like, ‘Hey, we’re going to have you out in Seattle.’ I just couldn’t be more excited.”He further elaborated-"My Mom couldn't find my Dad. I started breaking down just trying to get the message across. I was like, 'I don't even know what to say. I'm going to the big leagues, but I gotta go to this Cubs game.”
The Athletics manager Mark Kotsay was impressed with Muncy’s performance during the spring training, and this is what exactly led to a change of his mind, as he was prepared to send the 22-year-old back to the minor league camp. As reported by the MLB, the Oakland Athletics’ manager, Mark Kotsay, said“We were thinking about just sending him back to Minor League camp. My demand from him when he made it through cuts was, ‘I want an impression. I want you to stay here and leave an impression on me.’”Max Muncy even earned praise from his manager, Mark Kotsay-“He’s a kid that’s dynamic. He’s a fast-twitched kid that is really athletic.
He’s got great reaction times. He can cover ground, and he can play all over the infield, so there’s a lot of value there.”While talking about Max Muncy’s athletic prowess and approach towards the games, Kotsay further mentioned-“I think there’s a chance for him to stay on the field anywhere. We saw young players like Butler, [Tyler Soderstrom] and even Gelof get their opportunity and it was tough. He’s going to see what the league is all about. We’re going to see how he handles it. The hope is that he has success and never looks back.”After a second round of roster cuts through the spring training, the Oakland Athletics’ manager, Mark Kotsay, had called Max Muncy into his office. A meeting clearly indicates uncertainty over the athletes’ careers or even points out the possibility of being cut from the team lineup. However, things turned out differently for Max Muncy as he was assured by Mark Kotsay about his opening day lineup with the Athletics for the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
