“I think that’s just kinda how I play the game”- Hall of Famer CC Sabathia on his loyalty for the Brewers

CC Sabathia needs no introduction to the world of baseball. The former MLB icon’s 19-year career is not only filled with his great performances on the field but also with his dominance and perseverance. The Hall of Famer recently opened up during an interview with the MLB Network and confessed to going against his agents and risking his great Major League Baseball career. Back in 2008 when CC Sabathia was at the peak of his MLB career, he clearly knew where his loyalties lay. Where other athletes played safe in order to avoid getting injured which might have impacted their free agency, Sabathia chose his priorities, i.e. his team. During an interview with the MLB Network, Sabathia said- “I think that’s just kinda how I play the game. I was healthy, there was nothing wrong with me physically. I felt like we were in a situation where we were trying to get into the playoffs, and in my mind, any real ace would’ve done what I did.” Despite the fact that Sabathia’s agents were more concerned about his health than the team, the talented baseball icon wanted to give it all for his team back then. Sabathia further mentioned- “I had so much fun on that team. I didn’t want the season to end. Oh yeah, my agent at that time wasn’t happy,” For Sabathia, it went on to become something more beyond his professional goal with respect to giving the best for the Brewers. While talking about his dedication to the Milwaukee Brewers, he said-“There was never a time in my career where I took the mount where I thought I was gonna win a game but during those 2-3 months in Milwaukee I felt like every time I took the ball I was gonna win the game.” It was this spirit of CC Sabathia that left an indelible mark on and off the ground. An MLB career that spans over 19 years, speaks volumes about Sabathia’s brilliance and perseverance on the field. A powerhouse of talent, Sabathia made headlines across the globe after he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame 2025.
