“I'm excited”: Mets manager Carlos Mendoza shares true feelings on Pete Alonso's delayed return

During a recent interview on MLB Network Radio, Mets general manager Carlos Mendoza poured his heart out while talking about Pete Alonso’s comeback. The 45-year-old Mets official revealed that there was a thousand-watt smile on his face when he came across the deal between Pete Alonso and the Mets. He said-
“Once I got the news that we got Pete back -- big smile on my face.”
Carlos Mendoza can easily envision how the New York Mets lineup would end up looking in the upcoming 2025 season. According to Mendoza, the Mets' roster should feature Pete Alonso batting behind Francisco Lindor followed by the Dominican star Juan Soto. Mendoza even pointed out how the Polar Bear’s re-entry can influence the entire lineup. He said-
“I'm excited to have Pete back and what the team was able to do this offseason. I can't wait to get going.”
While talking about the Mets’ approach for the upcoming season, he said-
“Even though it was a very good year for us last year, we didn't accomplish the ultimate goal, which is to win a championship. So we’ve got to move on.”
With the Spring training session about to start in a few days, the expectations from the New York Mets are humongous. The Mets turned heads in December 2024 after roping in Juan Soto with a record-breaking contract in the baseball fraternity. The Dominican star signed a 15-year contract with the Mets for $765 million and broke the record of Shohei Otani as the Japanese hitter was signed for $700 million by the Dodgers.


Former MLB star Chris Gimenez believes that Pete Alonso is back with a bang with the Mets for the upcoming season. The ex-Texas Rangers alum made a bold prediction about the 30-year-old slugger during a recent interview. Gimenez said-
“He is getting a scope to hit behind Juan Soto, who is going to be on base a ton. I think we see something closer to what we saw out of Pete Alonso in ‘23 compared to what we did in ‘24“.
The MLB star further mentioned-
“I am really excited to see, yes, what the power numbers are, because I think we will see a better version of him in that regard this year“.
With one of the finest lineups in the lead, all eyes are set on the New York Mets for the upcoming season. On one hand, when the Los Angeles Dodgers dominated the winter off-season, the Mets stole the show after signing Juan Soto and bringing back their beloved slugger Pete Alonso.
