The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will have to wait another day to continue their heated AL East rivalry, as rain has once again washed out the action. For the second consecutive night, wet weather forced a postponement—this time, the second game of Friday’s scheduled doubleheader was the casualty.

Red Sox fans get bonus baseball Saturday after rainout forces day-night doubleheader

The Red Sox confirmed the postponement early Friday evening, citing persistent rain in the forecast. As a result, both teams will now gear up for a doubleheader on Saturday. The revised schedule will see the first pitch of Game 1 at 1:05 p.m., followed by Game 2 at 6:35 p.m.
Boston is set to send right-hander Hunter Dobbins (2-1) to the mound for the afternoon contest, while Lucas Giolito (1-1) will take the hill in the nightcap. Baltimore, meanwhile, has yet to announce its pitching plans for the twin bill. The weather has already thrown the series into disarray. Thursday's original opener fell victim to a nor’easter that swept through the region. That game was made up earlier Friday, and the Red Sox made the most of it, delivering a dominant 19-5 win. Rafael Devers was the undisputed star of the game, driving in a career-high eight runs in the rout.
Fans holding tickets for Friday night's postponed game need not worry. Those tickets will now grant access to the first game on Saturday. Additionally, the originally scheduled Saturday matchup—which had been slated for a 4:10 p.m. start—has been rescheduled to the later 6:35 p.m. slot to accommodate the new doubleheader format. With the stakes high in the division and momentum riding after Friday’s blowout, Saturday’s back-to-back games could prove pivotal. If the rain clouds finally part, fans can expect a full day of baseball drama at Fenway Park. Also Read: Nationals' Keibert Ruiz makes parents proud with game-changing RBI double in their first live MLB game
