Promoter Eddie Hearn welcomes Dana White to the world of boxing: “If it's Dana and TKO coming into the sport, great for boxing!”

UFC President Dana White recently joined hands with Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority Chairman, Turki Alalshikh and announced a new boxing league. This has led to a lot of debates amongst the fans and the critic community, who are of mixed opinions about the proposed step. Recently, in an interview, Eddie Hearn, a well-known British boxing promoter, expressed his opinion upon White entering the world of boxing.
The announcement brought in a lot of criticism from the boxing promoters around the world. Promoter Oscar De La Hoya also stepped in to express his discontentment with the partnership between White and Alalshikh. However, he ended his statement by saying how he still looks forward to working with the chairman in the near future.
British promoter Eddie Hearn was also asked recently about how he felt about White’s stepping into the world of boxing, to which he expressed his indifference regardless. He went to explain that it is indeed better for the world of boxing to have a promoter like White, which will ultimately bring in new challenges and opportunities both for the fighters as well as the promoters. When asked about the reason behind his current positive stance in terms of the announcement and if he thinks it will affect him in any way, he stated,

“I just think I'm Wiser and I'm smarter now. And I believe in myself a lot more. I look at Dana White and those guys coming in are great. Like it just brings additional profile, additional interest, additional Buzz to the sport. So for me, I haven't really sat back and gone like ‘does the league work, what is the league, what's it going to mean for me?’ It's just like I got my TV contract, I've got massive shows around the world. I'm nonstop. I'm focused on us, our business, and our fighters.”
He went on to tag boxing, in the same interview, as the “worst business in the world”. Hearn subtly delivered a message to White, saying, “Boxing is the worst business in the world. The greatest highs, but the worst business. I do not believe that these people will want to live their life in the way that is required to win at this game”, he further added, “This is a 24x7 sleep with your f*cking eye open at all times. What I mean is, this isn't go to bed, wake up in the morning, we've still got the UFC, we do what we want, it doesn't matter. No one can harm us. This is cut throat, every day someone trying to f*ck you left, right and center. And you got to live the life in it. I don't think that's their strategy. If it is welcome to the party.”
Hearn seemed rather excited for the new venture and he is all for the upcoming challenges along with the advent of the new promotion.
“Guess what, I ain't going to sleep. So I look at it as a massive opportunity, whichever way it goes. If it's the league and if it's Dana and TKO coming into the sport, great for boxing!”
