Murioi claims Indian 2000 Guineas

MUMBAI: Favourite Murioi, trained by S Ganapathy and ridden by B Sreekanth, easily put it across his eight rivals to claim the Indian 2000 Guineas, the second classic of the Mumbai Season, at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse on Sunday.
Second in demand Silver Arrow was withdrawn after he played up at the starting stalls and fell down. Altamaash Ahmed's Alaindair finished second while Pesi Shroff's Mariinsky was third ahead of Falcon.
Sreekanth kept Murioi in good third place behind Alaindair and Silver Streak who disputed the lead initially before Silver Streak settled down in front. As the eight horse field entered the home stretch, Alaindair overtook fading Silver Streak to hit the front. Sreekanth too let loose Murioi who soon went past Alaindair and sailed away for a authoritative victory.
