PUNE: Indian men failed to make an impact in the World Swimming Championships, going on in Barcelona.
Sandeep Sejwal had a best finish of 32nd in the 200m breaststroke in a time of two minutes 16.05 seconds while he came 35th and 45th in the 50m and 100m events respectively in the breaststroke category.
The 24-year-old Delhi swimmer timed 28.12 seconds in the sprint event and one minute 02.69 seconds in the 100 metres.
Virdhawal Khade also bowed out in the preliminaries, finishing 62nd in the 100m freestyle for men in a time of 53.47 seconds.
Sejwal's timings were on par with his previous performance but for Khade, who began training only a few weeks ago, they were much slower than what he had set in the national championships in Pune last year.
Sejwal had clocked one minute 03.10 seconds in the 100m breaststroke and 28.96s in the shorter sprint, whereas Khade raced the 100m freestyle in a new meet record of 50.53 seconds at the Balewadi sports complex.
Khade had qualified for the World Championships in the 50m and 200m freestyle. The 50m event is scheduled for Friday but his name didn't feature in the 200m start list.
