NEW DELHI: Bajrang Punia versus Sushil Kumar, it said. But it was Rahul Mann of the UP Warriors walking on to the mat and not the two-time Olympic medallist. Something was not right. Sushil had famously opted out of the Pro Wrestling League a day earlier, so what was happening?
A closer look revealed a wardrobe malfunction of its own kind Mann was wearing a singlet which bore Sushil's name.

It caught the organisers unawares and had them looking for immediate damage control as confusion surrounding the event refused to die down on the second day. To be fair, the organizers had made efforts to put up a better show but there were not many watching.
Sushil's name on Mann's singlet was concealed behind red (duct) tape and only then was Punia of the Bengaluru Yodhas, allowed to stamp his superiority in the 65kg category with 10-2 verdict to give his team a 2-0 lead. Earlier, Sandeep Tomar beat Sergey Ratushniy 4-2 to put Bengaluru in charge.
Learning from Thursday's poor show, the proceedings on Friday looked better executed with grapplers walking on to the mat in a more planned manner as fans cheered endlessly at the KD Jadhav wrestling arena.
The World Championship semifinal rematch between India's Narsingh Yadav, who had to settle for bronze in Las Vegas, and Mongolia's Purvejav Unurbut was the talk of the day . Turning out for Bengaluru in the 74kg category, Narsingh didn't disappoint. He beat the world silver medallist 9-1 in a one-sided contest. The Mongolian, who was chosen by the UP team as last minute replacement for their icon player Sushil Kumar, had landed in the Capital only on Friday morning.

“I had lost to the Mongolian in Las Vegas. It feels nice to beat him in front of the home crowd. I got a chance to take revenge,” Narsingh said later. When asked about Sushil's absence, Narsingh said: “It doesn't make a difference. It's not about a player. We are working with the team and ours is a strong one. We are strong contenders to win the league.”
Bengaluru emerged a superior side from the start with wins in women's 48kg and men's 97kg to take an unassailable 4-0 lead. Alyssa Lapme beat Kogut Oleksandra 5-4 while Pavlo Olynik overcame India's Satyawvrat Kadian 2-1 to bring home easy victories.
The women's 58 kg category bout was a touch and go affair where India's Ritu Malik, representing UP Warriors, took on five-time World champion Yuliya Ratkevich of Azerbaijan.
