Jalen Duren’s hot streak hits another level with All-Star nod and Slam Dunk invite

Detroit Pistons’ Jalen Duren got the first nod as an Eastern Conference reserve for the 2026 NBA All-Star Game. The announcement was made on February 1, 2026, before the Pistons vs Nets tip-off.

This news follows Duren’s decision to bypass a contract extension last summer to enter restricted free agency this July. It was more like a bet on himself and his abilities. But he didn’t disappoint. Along with a breakout 2025-26 season, this All-Star selection further elevates NBA career.

Jalen Duran’s statistical dominance and All-Star recognition

Duren was Charlotte Hornets’ no. 13 overall pick during the 2022 NBA draft. But his rights were immediately traded to the New York Knicks and then to the Detroit Pistons. This All-Star reserve selection validates his transformation as one of the league’s premier interior forces, as he continues to average a double-double with 18.0 points and 10.7 rebounds while shooting with an efficiency of 63.5% from the field. Duren’s rebounding prowess is currently ranked sixth in the NBA both in total (437) and average (10.7). He also has the 3rd best offensive rebound average (3.8) and 5th best in total (154).



In the Pistons' last game against the Brooklyn Nets at Little Caesars Arena, the team not only registered a 130-77 blowout win but also set the franchise’ biggest margin win by 53 points. It was Duren’s 41 match of this season, and he dropped the night's highest points with 21, followed by 10 rebounds, and 3 assists while going 8-of-12 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.


In a recent report by ESPN’s Shams Charania on February 3 it was announced that Jalen Duren has accepted an invitation to compete in the 2026 NBA Slam Dunk Contest in Los Angeles. Duren stands at 6 '11 with a 7' 5 " wingspan and has a 42-inch vertical leap making him one of the explosive dunkers in the league. He utilises his athleticism and elite physical strength to dominate the rim. His quick “second jumps” keeps the defenders on their toes cause they never know when he’s gonna slam dunk the basketball. At a completion rate of 94.9%, Duren has 111 dunks this season.

At just 22 years of age, Jalen Duren is NBA’s third-youngest player in history to reach 3,000 career points and 2,500 rebounds, trailing behind the Hall of Famers Dwight Howard and Knicks’ Karl-Anthony Towns.

His performance, along with teammate Cade Cunningham’s, has proven to be instrumental in the Detroit Pistons conference-leading record of 36-12, while both also went on to earn the All-Star honors in the same season. Duren will take his power dunk to the Intuit Dome on February 14th, 2026, for the Slam Dunk Contest along with Lakers’ Jaxson Hayes and Spurs’ Carter Bryant.
