NBA commissioner Adam Silver recently made some radical propositions regarding the league. To keep the viewership up, Silver thinks that game time should be decreased. The recent drop in the number of viewers has been a cause of concern for the league and the management. And this new proposition has been made while keeping these numbers in mind. But JJ Redick does not think it's a good idea.

Adam Silver's solution to the viewership problem is not sitting too well

Being one of the most popular sports, basketball is watched all across the globe. The NBA is definitely the biggest stage when it comes to the game. But recently, the NBA has been facing some viewership problems, and people at the top are trying to come up with a solution to solve this issue. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has one solution in mind, but many, including JJ Redick, do not think it's a good idea.
Silver recently proposed that the league games should be played in 10-minute quarters instead of 12 minutes. Since the league started, the games have been played for four 12-minute quarters, totaling a 48-minute game. Now, cutting into this time will mess with the structure that coaches and players have been used to for as long as they have been associated with the game. And most are not a fan of that, even if it is suggested keeping in mind to improve the league for the better.

JJ Redick dismisses the newest proposal by the NBA Commissioner

JJ Redick, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers has made his stance on this new proposal perfectly clear. He is not a fan, and he does not think it is a good idea to mess with the game they love in any way.
“Not a fan. That’s not a good idea. We are the premier league, in the NBA. Why are we conforming to anyone else? It’s not a good idea.”Denver Nuggets head coach, Michael Malone, is also not a fan of the newly proposed structure and let his thoughts know before the Nuggets lost to the Knicks, 122-112 on Jan 29.“I hope we don’t go to 10-minute quarters. I hope we don’t go to the four-point line. I hope we don’t become Barnum & Bailey where we’re just having to do whatever we have to do to keep viewership. Because there is a history and greatness to this game. And a purity to this game and I hope we can find a way to stay true to that.”Looks like the coaches, at least two of them, are not going to stand for this new proposal by the NBA Commissioner. We are yet to see if there are any concrete plans to implement something similar to the league or if things remain untouched.
