New Orleans Pelicans' Injury List Grows as Dejounte Murray Tears Achilles, Ending His Season

The New Orleans Pelicans are struggling this season with a 12-37 record. Key players, including Dejounte Murray, Zion Williamson, and Brandon Ingram, are sidelined due to injuries, making it challenging for Coach Willie Green to maintain team performance. With a thin roster, the Pelicans aim to develop other players and consider trades to bolster their lineup.

The New Orleans Pelicans kicked off the season with big hopes, but things have taken a rough turn. Dejounte Murray's Achilles injury adds to a growing list of injuries, with eight of their top nine scorers missing a lot of games. Coach Willie Green is having a hard time keeping the team afloat, and the Pelicans are facing a tough road ahead. With a thin roster and a disappointing 12-37 record, is there still a chance for them to turn things around?

Pelicans Face Harsh Reality as Eight of Their Top Nine Scorers Missed 13 or More Games

Murray got hurt in the first quarter while trying to grab his own missed shot. It was a non-contact injury, which raised immediate red flags, and medical checks later confirmed it was a torn Achilles. This isn't the first time he's had a major injury; he missed the entire 2018-19 season with a torn ACL and had surgery earlier this season for a broken left hand, which kept him out for 17 games. Before this latest setback, he was putting up 17.5 points, 7.4 assists, and 6.5 rebounds in 31 games during his first year with the Pelicans.
The injury troubles don’t stop with Murray. Important players like Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram, and Herb Jones have also missed a lot of time due to different injuries. Williamson sat out for 27 games because of a hamstring strain, Ingram has been out with an ankle sprain, and Jones is out indefinitely with a torn labrum.

Willie Green Acknowledges the Team’s Struggles After Losing Key Players

Coach Willie Green summed up how everyone feels in the organization, saying, "It’s really tough when you see a guy who means so much to our team and works hard go down like that." With all these injuries piling up, the Pelicans have had to rely a lot on their bench and change their game plans on the fly, showing their grit and determination even with everything going against them.
As the Pelicans push through the rest of the season without one of their key players, the focus will be on helping the other guys develop and possibly changing some strategies. The front office might also look into trades to strengthen the team and lessen the blow from these injuries. The road ahead is going to be tough, but the Pelicans are committed to pushing through and growing.
