The United Center has seen its fair share of history, but few nights will ever feel as visceral as the moment Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey finally climbs toward the ceiling on January 24, 2026. For a generation of Chicago fans, D-Rose wasn't just a point guard, he was the hometown hero who made the Bulls matter again. This weekend, the youngest MVP in league history returns to the house he built to be officially immortalized. The celebration is more than a ceremony, it's a city-wide embrace of the kid from Englewood who became a dominant force on the hardwood. The atmosphere in the Chi is currently electric, with the Bulls pulling out all the stops. From interactive hologram photo-ops to a Rose’s Flower Shop pop-up in the atrium. Whether it’s hearing Derrick’s voice on CTA buses or seeing his face on souvenir cups, the Rose Forever theme is everywhere.

A menu fit for Derrick Rose’s spectacular career

In a move that has foodies and sneakerheads equally hyped, the United Center has introduced a curated menu that pays homage to Rose’s journey. Fans can snag No. 1-shaped chips, rose-shaped cake pops, and jersey cookies.
Or the Rose cocktails, which are rose-infused ice cubes with a red rose inside them. This personal touch reflects the deep connection between the player and his city. Speaking on the relevance of roses in his life, Derrick once shared: “From Englewood to the rafters, my story has always been about making the city proud. Roses have always meant more to me than something simply beautiful... they represent love and appreciation. This moment is my way of saying thank you.”The Bulls will honor Rose’s legacy post Bulls vs Celtics scheduled for Saturday. Rose has played in 16 NBA seasons and bagged the 2011 NBA MVP award at just 22 as the youngest player ever. He finished his NBA career with 3-All Star nods and 723 regular-season games with an average of 17.4 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.2 rebounds.

Derrick Rose was more than just a player

While the souvenir lines are long, the real action is the legacy on display. Rose’s impact transcends the rectangle. He grew up in a poverty-stricken neighbourhood and worked his way up to becoming a global star. Rose’s life story is the journey of a young boy who, with grit, determination, and talent, turned the tables for himself and his family. Rose’s NBA journey was just not about the million lights of an arena, but also about the connection with the community. From the Rose Scholars program for providing scholarships to college students to the Rose Garden project, which works towards supporting the biodiversity of local neighbourhoods, Derrick continues to use his platform to spread hope and inspire others to dream big cause’ dreams come true.
