In a key development, prominent lawyer Tony Buzbee has decided not to represent Moriah Mills in her possible lawsuit against NBA star Zion Williamson. This decision arrives as Williamson is confronted with a separate civil lawsuit from an unidentified woman claiming he raped and abused her over a five-year duration. Buzbee, who is well-known for managing high-profile cases, cited a full caseload as a reason for his choice, stating, "We can't help them all." Mills, who had a relationship with Williamson from 2018 to 2023, has expressed her disappointment to the public.
Zion Williamson Denies Allegations in Ongoing Civil Lawsuit
On May 29, 2025, a woman named Jane Doe filed a civil lawsuit in the Superior Court of Los Angeles County against Zion Williamson, claiming he raped her, assaulted her, kidnapped her, and engaged in a pattern of abuse from 2018 to 2023. She says the abuse started during Williamson's freshman year at Duke University and continued after he became a player for the New Orleans Pelicans. Among the specific incidents mentioned are two alleged rapes in 2020, along with claims of being drugged, strangled, and threatened with a gun. The lawsuit is asking for damages between $18 million and $50 million.
Through his attorney Michael A. Balascio, Williamson has firmly denied the claims, describing them as "totally false and reckless."
His legal representatives maintain that the relationship was consensual and casual, and they are preparing to file a counterclaim for defamation, arguing that the plaintiff's assertions are motivated by financial interests.
Moriah Mills Responds to Buzbee's Decision
Moriah Mills, who was in a relationship with Williamson from 2018 to 2023, thought about taking legal action against him and contacted Tony Buzbee for help. However, Buzbee's firm decided not to take her case, with Buzbee mentioning, "A member of our staff spoke to her. After review, we declined to take her case."
After the rejection, Mills took to social media to vent her frustration, saying she had gone through years of humiliation and threats since their breakup. She highlighted the emotional pain she's been through and her desire for justice for herself and other supposed victims.
